This renovatin of a home with the Tahoe Donner development seeks to take advantage of the wooded site while providing a private santuary within the suburban neighborhood. Rearranging the interior around an elevated outdoor room, the floor plan focuses views towards the rear fo the site, avoiding views of nearby houses while enhancing the connection to the forest. Two wings form the edges of the outdoor room: a master suite on the south side and guest rooms on the north side. A new stair and hearth divides the intimate living room and the open double height kitchen and dining area, maintaining a sense of spatial order without isolating rooms. Both areas connect directly to the outside room, which serves as an extention of the interior as well as a blurred connection to the outdoors.
